An artisan’s workshop in the heart of Florence where the tradition of mosaic in semi-precious stones begun in the Renaissance continues. An art gallery with works entirely made by the expert hands of the masters Renzo and Leonardo Scarpelli.
The “Commesso Fiorentino” is a common heritage to be preserved over the centuries as a great treasure.
Enzo Scarpelli was born in 1947 in Firenzuola (FI). When he was only 13 years old, he began to work with stones in one of the oldest workshops in Florence. At that age and at that time, the children had to demonstrate the desire to work and learn a trade rather than the ability to create a work.
After long years of apprenticeship and the completion of his artistic studies, Renzo opened his workshop in Florence where he began to create his first works. Today, Renzo Scarpelli is a master of the “Florentine Clerk”, one of the most famous in the world.
His experience in technique, his mastery, his sensitivity but above all his passion for art, make him a complete artist. Renzo believes very much in young people, considered the future of this secular art now remained in the hands of very few Florentine mosaicists. Therefore he has always dedicated his knowledge to teaching with the commitment to pass on the “Florentine clerk” to his students.
His son Leonardo, attracted by the workshop since he was a child, shows a great ability to learn and a great manual skill.
After completing his studies in mosaic and pictorial decoration, he decided to work alongside his father and the great passion of a child became the profession of his life. Leonardo is considered one of the best artists of the new generation.
His “stone painting” is the extraordinary combination of art and craftsmanship, tradition and innovation.
Renzo and Leonardo work together in the workshop and create high quality artistic masterpieces. Gabriella has followed her husband Renzo throughout his professional career and has created his own business in making and repairing pendants, earrings and necklaces in semi-precious and hard stones. Catia, the eldest daughter, after years of experience in other sectors has decided to follow the family tradition; today she is in charge of the commercial management of the company.
